Discriminated by Goodwill

I worked for one of these places for a small stint and I never had a bad experience. Where I worked, once it hit the floor I was able to purchase it at the end of the day, or shift. I was like any other good paying customer. I spent the whole day in a section of testing electronics, re-boxing them, then setting them on shelves.

Then again, I love solving problems, so here you go :tongue3:

The only way around this for you is to go with an accomplice :tongue3: Bring a friend, point out what you want, and let them purchase it for you.

P.S. Buy them a coffee later too :laughing7:

Yeah. No kidding. Unwedge the undies and have your buddy buy em for ya.

I'm glad you got a better answer and mistakes in fully understanding the policy can happen . So what do you think of a thrift store owner of two stores coming in everyday and filling her cart with items to resell at twice the price at her store ??? these stores were designed for those who can't afford new . So is it fine to take those items for those who need and sell them for twice the price at another second hand shop ... shouldn't this be another problem you need to report ??? Just courious on that you think about this ??? Or would this be fair game ? I sure your albums are for sale at the right price , aren't they ? HH , Woodstock

That might have once been a purpose, but Goodwill is a BUSINESS, not a charity. Run a quick check on the CEOs salary of the various regions and see what the profits really go to support.

This is just in Florida:

I have to agree with the ones that said... WHY put your wife out of a job over this..???????????????? To me that's just plain not a smart move.........

if they are pricing there stuff so cheap (and I promise they are not) that some one can double there money in a second hand store. Then that is the stores problem the person that is buying it is helping keep the store going.

All this for record albums. I just gave away all my old Elvis and Beatle albums to some kids that wanted them. Do you not have Half Priced Books where you live? They sell old albums here from $1 to $3, sometimes less. They are $,50 at Salvation Army here too and about the same at the Pulgas(Fleas). They ain't gold...

Wow, it's interesting how the facts get twisted over just a day. First, the albums that I wanted (and bought last night) were not on "clearance", nor were they there over a week. As a matter of fact, they were put out on the same day that I attempted to buy them the first time. That's as much "inside information" that I get - the day that they go to the floor and only if it happens on a day that my wife works. Even then, they were out at least 6 hours before I got there.
Second, I'm not a reseller, I'm a collector. I shop at the thrift stores because I'd rather pay $1.99 for albums than $20.
When I told the story to my sons girlfriend, who is a manager at another Goodwill, she rolled her eyes and said that the reason the original manager stopped me on Thursday was because they get mixed messages from management about selling to employees. It's clear that employees can't purchase the current weeks color, but they've caught employees bringing family members and friends in, picking out what they want and having the other person attempt to buy the items. That's also against the rules. It so happens that upper management will randomly pull tapes and review them to see if this type of activity is going on and when they see it, the store manager gets written up. So some store managers apparently have decided to not allow family members to purchase the current weeks color to avoid the issue altogether, even though that's not the company's policy. In the end, it will put the store manager in an awkward position, but that's too bad. She shouldn't be making her own rules.
