A few years ago a neighbor on my street passed away, and her home was bought by a real estate speculator and has been sitting empty ever since. I had been meaning to check it out. I'm sure the house was built in 1955 like the rest in the neighborhood, so I didn't expect anything old. After finding three pennies, two dime and a nickle, I found a broken 14K gold chain next to the driveway. I was pretty sure it was gold just from the look of it in the dirt, and then the weight in my hand. The chain has a weight real similar to my mans 14K gold wedding band. I guess I need to buy a scale. I used my acid test kit for the first time and a gold streak on the stone stays with the 14k acid and disappears with 18K acid, so I think that means 14K. I used my AT Gold detector. This was also my first time out with my Pro Pointer AT and it was fantastic. The depth and accuracy was incredible.

Always cool to find gold !!!

I'm sure some will chime in about hunting without permission on private property but I think it all depends on the situation. I dont own the parks, soccer fields, ballfields I hunt in sometimes. I have hunted cellar holes deep in the woods that most dont even know exist and I dont own that either. A judgement call for me.

Looks like a watch chain to me. could be old. nice find

I analysed the chain at work with a X-ray fluorescent (XRF) analyzers.
Gold percentage is shown as AU on the machine.
41.67% equals 10K, so 40.12 is just a little under 10KDSCF8683.JPGDSCF8685.JPG

Nice gold chain find :occasion14: Looking forwards to finding my first yellow this year still, just a matter of time and persistence, gold is where ever you find it :headbang:

NIce chain and really I love the Gold tester, I was looking at them this winter and the ran about 6 grand:BangHead:... need to find a few more gold...

Thanks OBN.
We occasionally use the XRF testers to verify the type of alloy used in the repair of the chemical plant I work in.
I think they were $60,000 new about 6 years ago and $20-$30,000 new now.
I sure couldn't afford one.

Great find, and nice info... I just hope you signed out when you were done.

Good eyes.
Thats a note to remind me to make sure I'm signed out of the unit at the end of the day.
Theoretically, if i didn't sign out and there was an incident ( fire, explosion) they may go in looking for me.

Definitely a Pocket Watch Chain. Most of these were rolled gold, not solid but had a copper core. This may be why you AU analyzer says 10k and your acid test says 14K?

Nice grab!

If you paid taxes, you are part owner of the parks, etc. :dontknow:
