I got out a few times over the weekend at three different spots. The first spot was an old house that is slated to be demolished. It shows up on the 1867 Atlas, but the oldest thing I found was an 1892-O Barber Dime. I also got a 1917 Mercury dime, 1911 V nickel, a Buffalo nickel, and lots of wheats (not pictured).

I also got a couple hours in on Sunday before the rain hit at one of my pounded colonial sites. I got a King George III and a few buttons.

Monday I took the day off to hit a spot where I have recovered a couple hundred buttons, several large cents, and lots of Indian heads, but only two silvers – a 1903 Barber dime and a 1907 Barber quarter. Based on the age of the buttons and the large cents, I had always hoped to find a Capped or Seated silver here. When I arrived I found the grass was pretty high in most areas, so I moved into an adjacent field that hadn’t given up much in the past, but hadn’t been hunted as hard as the other areas. My first target was a somewhat choppy signal on the Deus that improved as I removed some dirt. Eventually the signal was out of the hole and hiding in a clod of dirt. I broke the clod in half, and saw the rim of a silver coin.

I removed a little dirt and took another picture. At this point things are looking good

It's always nice to get silver coins.
My first and onlyTrifecta was a Barber, Mercury, and a Silver Roosevelt. I have had a few open ended trifectas with a Barber and a Mercury. Had I gotten either a Seated on one end or a Silver Roosevelt on the other, I would have had another Trifecta.
Congrats on your finds. A Capped Dime is on my bucket list.

Congrats on some absolutely awesome finds- Love the Capped dime!!

Thanks Z.K. I was due for a nice condition early silver considering the condition of the last two that I dug....

Draped silver = bragging rights for life. You sir may throw those two coins up on any thread you please, as far as I'm concerned. Even if it turned my brief and otherwise pleasant lunchtime into a fit of envy : )

Thanks man! I'm in a bit of a Draped Bust silver slump. After finding the 1797 in 2010 and the 1803 in 2012, I haven't found one since.
But at least I'm not in a "Bust" silver slump :laughing7:

I have never dug one capped and you have three? Fantastic is all I have to say. Sweet silvers

Actually I have two Draped Bust and two Capped Bust................but only one Seated :dontknow:

that BBW babe is GORGEOUS waiting for my 1st date with her--- cap, drape, who cares what she wears____just want to rub one of them once:laughing7::laughing7:

Awesome! I can't get more than one silver here per year lol! Plenty of copper though. I guess if I went to newer spots (ie: 1890's to 1950's) I would have much greater chances, sadly the people in my town were extremely poor until the second half of the 1800's. Awesome hunt! I would kill for a hunt like that!

Coinman123,

Holy smokes Steve..That Capped Bust :icon_thumright: That is a thing of beauty man. Congratulations..

Man, that dime is really, really, ridiculously good looking. What a great find, it'll go nicely with your other two insane dimes.

I gotta ask, is there a mintmark on the 1903 barber?

Those are the types of finds that are only in my dreams...........superb day of hunting!! Congratulations!!

Steve my friend, you had some extraordinary hunts. Have a great fall. Congrats on the silvers and WTG, Q.

The 1903 dime that I found there a few years ago didn't have a mint mark.

Great hunts - Love the drama of seeing that silver Capped Bust sloooowly revealed! :icon_thumright:
Thanks Wildcat, I'm glad I took the pictures that I did so I could re-create the suspense of revealing the coin.

Coinman123,
Judging by what you're finding Coinman, I see an early US silver in your near future

Thanks J.C. Fortunately this was found in a cow pasture instead of a plowed field, which helped it survive in decent shape.

Banner worthy coin for sure!!
