might some one out there help clarify the following information. I see that it is now illegal to dig on the Gulf beaches where there might be oil to be found. And is it true that below the high water mark is all public. If what I see in the news is true, then this could be the new beginning to the end.
Any info would be helpful, thank you, da Prof

Do you mean oil from the Gulf spill? or oil as in ground reserves. Like a metal detectorist might tap into an oil field?

Have not heard of such a ban but would never let it stop me. Just ignore any such detecting laws. I do.

If your going to ask questions like that, it helps to post link to where you read that info........That would mean it is illegal for a 2 year old child to dig in the sand at the beach and that's not happening......

I bet close to 99% of Florida beaches are owned by the public, that is why you can hunt in front almost all hotels, resorts and homes ......

It was an article posted on Facebook of a Channel 3 news cast along the panhandle. the first vid was of a reporter 'digging up' a news story when approached by 'men with badges' saying-"no digging" The one I saw tonight was an interview of a N.P ranger with no knowledge of any such laws on public beaches, but added 'definitely not a N.P' but that is understood to begin with--
Obviously many conflicting interest going on down there.
I do see also posted a "WE DIG THE BEACH" rally on 10/10/10 ---I'll keep an eye on this--
