Detector(s) used
Bounty hunter sharp shooter ultra mag
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Had a little time today so I ran my detector around an old mulberry tree in my back yard and within minutes I dug up 2 wheats and a small ring(little kids costume jewelry)......darn! They all came from an area about 6 feet in diameter. I ran thru here quickly before and missed them. I guess slow and low is the way to go. The buttons where dug in a flood
control area not far from my house. Still looking for silver..haha

My silver has come when I least expected it. Since you've found 2 wheaties in your yard, some areas of that yard are likely to have silver coin or jewelry. Andi

The one item is a fishing barrel swivel

Thanks everybody. I'm not sure how the swivel got in the yard but its still better than foil....lol

Jodee, those buttons are from the 1820s - 1840s. There could quite possibly be a large cent or even a early silver coin in a spot where you're finding those kinds of buttons. You need to spend some time where you found those buttons.

BTW, I know where Derry is...I grew up in Ligonier.

Thanks Steve, wow ligonier is probably an awesome place to do some detecting.

I have found a lot of cool stuff around Ligonier and all over Westmoreland county.

I like finding the really old stuff :laughing7:

I've done more fly-fishing in ligonier than anything but I would definitely like to detect around there sometime.

Nice finds, congrats and HH!

Any old yard in Derry, Bradenville, New Derry, or Loyalhanna should have silver coins. Just like in Ligonier, the trick is getting permission. There is a lot of potential in Derry township. A lot of old farms that date to the 1700s.

I always love to see what people find in their own yards! Those flat buttons are telling me there are old coins yet to be found!

I definitely agree. I'm gonna have to do some research and keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for the advice and when that first silver is discovered its gonna be cool.

Wow all in a 6 foot area you already checked?? Bet your gonna be checkin and checking, and checking some more! :laughing7:
Cant wait to see what else you find! HH!

Your right I will be checking more. Its pretty exciting to dig nice finds in your own backyard. Now if I could find a way to learn the stories involved with each would be the icing on the cake...lol

Exciting hobby we have , especially when it's in your own back yard! Nice finds!:icon_thumleft:
