I headed out to a new site, location was a former homestead..with several outbuildings.
I also hunted a couple days back, story below

OK here's the story on the hunt on Friday...

I have also read the old site location was approx. mile north of present town location...

With permission acquired,I have been searching for the old church site...I have yet to locate a large iron field, which without knowing what happened to the church, burned, moved etc.there may not be one...I did however find an interesting piece,at least to me...it goes well with another past dig...the are a match so to say...

Glad you can still get out Scott. Maybe that blanket of snow will insulate the ground enough so it wont freeze. Pouring rain and almost 50 degrees here. I would like to think I can do a hunt tomorrow afternoon myself. Cause after tomorrow the ground is going to freeze up for sure.

That piece in the upper left hand corner of your "Scraps" photo is part of a parasol and is a common find in many Civil War camp and early house sites :icon_thumleft:

Thanks Jesse,I am hoping the snow will hold back the freeze, suppose to get quite chilly tonight and tomorrow, but fingers are crossed...

And Thanks Sentinel for the info ,never would have guessed it was part of an umbrella..

Really enjoyed reading your post Soup!
Love the pics and the detailed story. :icon_thumright:
Sure hope you can locate that old church,

Thanks Antiquarian, got it narrowed down to a few hundred acres :laughing7: but I will find it....All the old timers I have talked to look at me funny when I tell them about the move of the town,I guess even at an older age you can still learn a thing or two, plus they enjoyed talking about the old days....

And Mike thanks bud for the reply and kind words... ;D

As for you mobile miner, well I am a bit crazy I guess, but I sure had fun  ;D thanks for the reply
