I merely presented the Craigslist advertisement.
The blowers on my Carib are 32" in diameter and are made from 0.250 aluminum sheet. Those wheels are probably around 36" diameter on 2.5 to 3" shafts. The material is at least 0.250" thick if you compare what mine looks like compared to this.
I fail to see how the owner would benefit from misrepresenting his vessel. I would guess that someone with enough expendable income to be serious about spending $800,000 on a 50 year old vessel would be smart enough to look at the boat before they transferred the funds, therefore I would have to disagree about any 'scam' aspect. The BoatTrader ad says it just underwent a complete refurb...the blowers may not be a part of the present configuration.
Since my wife is a yacht charter broker, I have to be at the Palm Beach Boat Show this weekend. Maybe I'll run by and look at it. I'd love to see how their blower setup works. I am quite sure that the mock up pictures in the ad are not indicative of the work done. The price is not out of line for the size and quality of the boat, Burger being a well-respected builder and the level of fit and finish in the pictures of the boat is excellent.
Here is another ad: Used 1965 Burger Cpmy, New Bern, Nc - 28563 - BoatTrader.com
Sent the owner an email for some additional photographs and information.
We shall see.
I have had some correspondence with the owner of the FantaSea. He seems to be a nice guy. I invited him to the Cookout, but he's in the Midwest for the winter. (I have no idea why) and won't be back here until May.
Here's what he said about the blower setup.
"The blowers work great up to 30 to 40 feet. I have extensions to add on to go deeper. Also have attachment to add two 8 in hoses to one blower that can go 60 plus feet."
and
"It is a very comfortable and economical boat to run. Twin 871 naturals. The blowers mount using two divers. They slide into tracks that are bolted to the keel and two skegs that are welded to the hull on outboard sides. I've always wanted to weld on the skegs anyway to make her react better in following seas. It is a extended cockpit and they never extended the keel. It now handles great and tracks good. The beauty in this set up is the blowers are up approx 6 to 8 ft from transom. There is no lift when they are running, some vibration but very smooth quite blowers. Great blow boat."
So...if you'd like to class up your operation...here's your chance! The man that has been using it says it works well. I would have to see it work before I could disagree. Heaven knows that there have been a lot of different configurations of treasure boats. I know every time I think I have a new idea, someone quickly can point to someone, somewhere that tried that.
