I was looking into the minelab x-terra 705 because I like single frequency machines and this one gave me the option to switch frequencies by switching coils! Yippee, I get the best of both worlds right? Someone please explain to me how a coil can run at a different frequency? And then have the detector be able to tell what frequency coil your using and set up the machine for that said coil. How?

To help you understand more about the X-TERRA line of detectors, an eBook called "Understanding your X-TERRA" by Randy Horton is available for download.

Have an Xterra and have used different kHz coils on it, and it's as simple as putting on the different coil. But not a clue what happens inside to allow it.

Thanks but I already read all 96 pages. No where does it state how the coils run at diff frequencies. I know coils, how their made, diff applications, concentric vs dd, but a coil is a coil. How does it transmit a diff frequency? Thanks again.

I can understand and appreciate the idea of the actual computer running at diff frequencies, whites multi frequency technology allows the machine to run at all 3 frequencies at once or just one at a time. However always with the same coil. How does a coil change frequency? Can this really be a way for minelab to sell more coils? Tell me it's not true and I'm just crazy?

It's not a mufti band it's a single band
but the coil has there famous chip, that tells the box what it is
and the box adjust to their frequency and there's different size coils for each frequency
3 total frequency
in all
