Did anyone ever get cited for removing relics or artifacts from state game lands

Never would even attempt it. They can take EVERYTHING you brought with you here in MO, including your car as an accesory to committing a crime. Once they have that, they can issue a search warrant and get whatever is in your house too, whether it was found legally or not if you don't have the proof to back it up. I can understand this in historically sensitive MO parks, such as the civil war battle sites, Daniel Boone home area, etc...but most of the state parks are just that....PARKS!! There is nothing in there but the random drop from a long ago hunter, or maybe some older settler homesites of which they are all over anyway.

Gribnitz, Miragehunter says he doesn't know of an incident of arrest or confiscation. Do you know of any such incident?

I have only heard of a one or two, and in each case, they were blatantly night-sneaking obvious historical sites, or persons who couldn't take a warning, etc... I have never heard of anyone detecting in, for example campground sites, lake beaches, ball-diamonds, etc... in any state park, that ever got hassled. Or at the most: "don't do that here".

I am the same way. I have read news articles over the years and it isn't something that seems to commonly occur, but the laws are on the books that allows them to do what they wish. If it's a historically sensitive site, you know your going out in hand cuffs. Why take a chance ? Bottome line, the rules for Missouri State parks have the rules posted and any deviation could occur in fines or arrest:

Metal detecting is allowed only on specific sand beaches in the facilities listed below. A permit is required and may be obtained free of charge by writing to Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Facility and Visitor Services Program, P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, MO 65102, or by e-mail.
Crowder State Park
Cuivre River State Park
Finger Lakes State Park
Lake of the Ozarks State Park
Lake Wappapello State Park
Lewis and Clark State Park
Long Branch State Park
Pershing State Park
Pomme de Terre State Park
St. Joe State Park
Stockton State Park
Trail of Tears State Park
Harry S Truman State Park
Wakonda State Park
Wallace State Park
Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site

as in any hobby there are those - let's say it nicely - IDIOTS who would go to a state designated historic site and try to remove items at night and such, and obviously they should be fined/arrested etc, etc

i personally have a problem with people going to old, long forgotten cemetaries and metal detecting - it's not only disrespectful, it brings the hobby down ... and known Indian burial grounds artifact hunting is again just wrong ....

so when the rules state "historical items" - what could they be talking about ?

anybody ever hear of a "historical item" being found here in the states that the local or state government took from the individual ?

i've heard of such things happening abroad but not here

All of us basically have the same opinion! It is up to all of us who value what we do to consider our actions before we act!! Just like all other hobbies that I do weather it is MDing,Atving,Dirtbikeriding,ect-ect!! they all have laws and regulations and we all pay for the ignorance of ones unlawful actions. I do believe these people should be penalized to the full extent of the law!! and yes I was no exception when I was a teenager!! I was guilty of riding my dirt bike where I did not belong and I did the penalty for it!! Had to wash cop cars for 2 weeks!! I am much older now and realize that all people do not believe in the same thing and would like to stop the things we do!! So every one in our hobby needs to do there part to keep it lawful. ;)
