There are two main detectors I currently use. The Equinox 800 and the XP Deus 2. I’ve had a tough time deciding which one to use, especially at the beach (wet sand/wash). This weekend, I found the answer -for me. There were a couple of storms that created some big surf in Ocean City, Md this past week and flattened much of it. I had the opportunity to get down and do some hunting this Labor Day weekend. I alternated using the 800 and Deus 2 in the same Inlet area. The 800 did a great job and I found several targets, most within a good scoop or two. Many seemed to be in the 8-10 inch range.
I went back and hunted the same area with the Deus 2. I found about the same amount of targets, but many of them were much deeper. Also, it sniffed out these two 14k gold rings.
Both of these rings rang high on the VDI (71,72). It seems the more familiar I get with the Deus, the better it performs. I used the Beach program #11. Tweeked the settings to 1.5 recover, 6 salt disc, and increased sensitivity 3 or 4 notches. Dialed in with very little falsing in the wash. Dug every solid signal without regard to VDI number.
On a side note, this ring fits me perfectly and matches almost identically to my 88 year old father’s.
Also got out and did some crabbing in the Indian River Bay. Great weekend! Hope all enjoyed the holiday!
HH to all!
