DFX Silent Search

Well yesterday I just went out for the first time with the dfx and to be honest I found that silent search felt a bit better than threshold....
One thing I did find is that I was almost not able to have ONE repeatable vdi , even with shallow coins they were all over the place, does this sound normal?

I'll have to check...I don't remember any changes to the VDI showing up. Granted, I've only had mine for a few months & I can see where Threshold provides more information. It had just gotten to the point I didn't enjoy it anymore - I was always trying to interpret the VDI and fidding with the settings. Dropping my filter to 3 and using SS made it enjoyable again....until I better deal with Threshold.

silents nice but you sacrifice a little depth and accuracy.the less you have operateing at once the deeper youll goalso watch the dc if you crank it up that will throw off your vdi too.

Interesting. It drives me buggy not to have a threshold sound. Probably because I'm so used to it. I also use it to get a feel for when I'm near other targets but have not passed over them yet. The few times I have used silent were when EMI was a real problem... and its just spooky. hehh :) If you haven't try adjusting the tone and lowering the volume on it a bit. A thought.

I just came back from an outing after work. I'm continually wow'd...the DFX Hi-Po mode is as fantastic as they other programs are annoying. It consistently finds and IDs dimes, pennies, quarters at 10+ inches (granted, in tot-lot sand). No 191 tone cacophony ....nice. What are your experiences, here?

The DFX is a fantastic detector that is vary customable for what ever floats our boat.
