DFX or Explorer SE?

I would go with the DFX. It is easier on your ears since it don't sound like it came from another universe. Plus, it has an easier learning curve.

You won't be disappointed!

I guess I'm a little prejudiced by I love my DFX. I like the fact that it is an all around machine and has so many adjustments to set it up like you want. I'm not sure who makes the Explorer but the report for customer service from White's impresses me too.

Both are great. DFX would be my choice as well. The lighter the better in my book as well.

I vote for the DFX as well because that will leave more deep coins for the Explorers :) :) :)

I'm not in a position to speak for the DFX, but I can tell you that I chose the Explorer based on the reputation of the detector, and it lives up to it fully. Personally, it is a pleasure to hunt with the sounds the Explorer makes as opposed to hearing beeps with different tones. That is just my preference. Pitting both detectors would be a can of worms, the only thing I can say is that most Explorer users are not doubting or constantly trying to tweak the machine to pick up a coin at 8". My vintage XS has done that on factory turn and go settings with one exception.........manual sens at 19. I think that may be a lower sens that the factory.

six of one, half dozen of the other really. ;) it boils down to what you like. they are both great.

RicardoNY, Does the Explorer SE really have trouble picking a coin up at 8" or were you just joking?? ???
I'm hoping you weren't serious ;D
Thanks, -JC

read his whole post carefully.
He said you are not constantly tweaking or fiddling and it will pick up a coin at 8" in factory settings...

Go with the one that will get you the best sites. That's what will make the biggest difference. :P

JC, Teverly,
As said :) It's been my observation that alot of users of other detectors are trying to tweak or find settings/programs for their machines to consistently pick up coins past 6-7 inches. The Explorers (I have the XS) pick up coins at that depth or deeper with very little or no need to mess with settings. I run my XS at sens levels of 19-24 with deep on (Very well below the Max of 32) and can pick up coins at 7" no problem. With that said, I'm not trying to open up a can of worms, simply, you do not see Explorer users complaining about not getting depth on coins.

Good Call Kieth ::)

I had the SE and went back to the Ex 2. I use the DFX and the Explorer 2. Both are great detectors. Learn It. Use It.

DFX gets my vote.

You dont see explorer users complianing about depth.... now ask about coils breaking, weight and oh ya.. how about everything you buy is twice the price like coils and batteries? Depth has its price. I have the DFX i like that their warranty is good for 2 years on the detector... not the person. Unlike whites, if you buy a used minelab that was just purchased, you have no warranty. Whites has a great.. i mean great service center and will replace anything during this warranty. Also there seems to be a LOT of good books to help with the DFX. Dont get me wrong... the DFX needs MORE depth and how about a noise button so you can hunt competitions or with someone and i havent found 3 kHz to be worth much. Humm i must have had a bad day detecting.
