When I left the house this morning the weather was calling for a few flurries through the day and windy. When I got to the site the snow started and it didn't let up at all...still snowing now as I type this. It was freezing cold but I was dressed for the weather so no problem there. To start the targets were as expected...lot's of lead and a couple crusty Geo II coppers. The last target of the day was the early 1700s French 30 Deniers. It's a billon coin but it is silver and is one I haven't dug before. Also got a crusty 1650s Liard. I didn't even realize that I had the Deniers or the Liard until I got home and emptied my pockets...I thought the Deniers was a well worn button!
I would still be detecting there right now if didn't think I would have gotten snowed in. The field is about a mile down a farm road along open fields...it had started to drift in when I was driving out so I think I left just in time!
Liard de France
30 Deniers "Mousquetaire"
This is what it originally looked like...
