Destin Beach Find

OOPS! :P Sorry, ya'll. I had completely forgotten about this post. :-[ Thanks for all the comments and information you've added! I've seen him a couple of times since, but I haven't said anything to him. He just seemed so proud to have found it and I didn't want to put a damper on his excitment over it. He's an older fellow, and I just didn't have the heart to tell him what I had learned. Ya know? :-\
BUT..I DO appreciate all the replies! I've learned a lot from you all. :)

Thanks again, Nana

Nana:

Telling him the truth today might avoid future embarrassment for both of you later. And being an old geezer myself, I'd rather know the truth than to know my friend kept the truth from me.
Just a thought........
Don.....

Geeze, Don! :-X You're making this even more difficult! :D I'd just hate to be the one to tell. :-X He's always been the kind, older, proud, look-up-to kinda guy. Maybe.....I'll just print this page and mail it to him anonymous? :P Just kidding!!! :D I'll see if I can summon up the courage to speak to him on it the next time I see him.

Nana

I believe, without a doubt, that he really found it. It has worn enough for all the gold plating to come off. Usually the zinc base will be corroded but maybe it is a silver replica. I dont know, but he is not the first person to find a replica on the beach. I have found them myself. It is not embarrassing, only disappointing. It happens.

I have a feeling he has already realized that is is a copy or will find out soon enough because it is obvious to anyone that studies or collects old Spanish cobs.

i was just logging off after a sabbatical..and met a well known treasure hunter here in california where I am at for 2 more months..

CAZ:
Here are three (one is a 1-real with the same date). And as BCH just mentioned, I, too, would like to see a pic of your coin and read the story you were given about your coin.

of rings and an assortment of coins greeted me...
lots of pics and various movies of dives and finds made...this guy is legit, but he wants no publicity...

as for posting the pic, when I get the digital camera sent from home, I will post one...
