That's what archaeologists should be doing.

I wonder if it would have ever been found, if it wasn't on their own land? I doubt there would be any digging without grant money otherwise....
 

The APPELTON MUSEUM in Ocala plans to exhibit the DeSoto site finds this October.
Marion county has always been a rich source for artifacts-
Fossils,shark teeth,mastadon teeth & bones,etc
Native American arrowheads,pottery shards
Seminole War musket balls,US insignia & forts
Civil War Union & Confederate atrifacts,and the sites of several plantations & forts
Sunken riverboats & riverboat landings
Carmichael whiskey bottles
Items from cypress logging on the Oklawaha River
Ma Barker bullets and shells
