Well last Sunday 02/19/12 I was out hunting with Bilt36 and Mikewaz in the woods along The river, First time in about 6 months, it looked like a good spot ,very old neighborhood, and we have found older coins here before. So I started looking around, about a half hour out there I got a good hit at 9 inches, it was a little star with writing on it ,I thought it was maybe a charm for a necklace with someone’s name on it so I put it in my pocket and kept hunting . A little while later I found a Mercury dime, and when I met up with the guys I showed them my finds, and that is when I saw what I had ,I cleaned it off and noticed the seated liberty on the backside of it, at first I thought shoot ,Seated coins are my favorite coins and look what somebody did to this one, I never found a seated half, but after those guys told me how cool and unique this was then I took a good look at it and ,yes it is neat, so they suggested I put it on Treasure Net, So I did when I got home. Mainly to see if maybe anyone knows anything about this star , and yes and show it off, I enjoy reading all the stories, and after 25 yrs of Metal Detecting I felt This was something different to see on hear. and one of my best finds!
So thanks again to everyone for your posts

Hey Tom, welcome to Tnet! :hello:

That's an amazing find man! :o
How about some details on where and how you found it? :icon_scratch:

Best of luck to you,
Dave

Not doubting the authenticity of the piece, only know that they have made repros, but if that is the real deal, I certainly vote banner!
That is one sweet dig!

Hey don't worry about the pics Tom, there are lots of good people here on Tnet that'll offer you assistance.

I downloaded this http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/download.php for free a couple of years ago.
I find it works well and it's easy to use.

I don't think your badge is a repro either!

now this has got to be one of the coolest things ever. I vote banner for sure

Welcome to the forum, RTom. That is a beautiful Deputy Sheriff BADGE, not just a "pin." The "T" bar pin and "C" shaped catch (jewelery findings) indicate a manufacture from the mid 1800's to the early 1900's. The upside down, five-pointed star was also a common style on early, jeweler-made badges. You will have badge collectors throwing money at you soon. Congratulations! :icon_thumright:

Thank You for the info

Being it is a seated coin, which is the era of
Love Tokens, my guess it's a Fantasy Piece
created in the 1870's, 1890's period.

I Wonder if it was created at the request of a Deputy Sheriff,
or a child.

Definately a Very nice Find

Another pic to show to show size
