Hit the lil lead honeyhole again for an hour and a half today. Found:
IT was really a heart stopper at first. The brass buckle in the picture took about 30 minutes to get to as it was down about 11/2 feet and with some HUGE roots RIGHT IN THE WAY to boot! Well I just kept digging and digging and the faint beep was getting louder and louder. I honestly didnt think I was ever going to reach it and then all of a sudden I scooped away a shovel of dirt and it fell out into the bottom of the hole. My HEART stopped for a minute because the whole of the inside was filled with caked up dirt which made it look like an Honest to GOODNESS plate. As I lightly started wiping the dirt away, it fell through. and I saw that it wasn't a plate but just a really old brass buckle. Well I'll take it but you can imagine the thrill when I thought it may be a baby U.S. ...and then the low when I realized it wasn't.... and then the "well it is still a cool buckle" that brought me back to par I think that it may be a colonial buckle as deep as it was which is not at all uncommon for these parts.
Sorry as it is ALL fresh out of the ground and still dirty
