Hit the lil lead honeyhole again for an hour and a half today. Found:

  • A few 3 ringers and a musketball
  • A DEEP Brass Buckle
  • A Whats It I will have to clean to find out what it is

IT was really a heart stopper at first. The brass buckle in the picture took about 30 minutes to get to as it was down about 11/2 feet and with some HUGE roots RIGHT IN THE WAY to boot! >:( ;D Well I just kept digging and digging and the faint beep was getting louder and louder. I honestly didnt think I was ever going to reach it and then all of a sudden I scooped away a shovel of dirt and it fell out into the bottom of the hole. My HEART stopped for a minute because the whole of the inside was filled with caked up dirt which made it look like an Honest to GOODNESS plate. As I lightly started wiping the dirt away, it fell through. :( :( and I saw that it wasn't a plate but just a really old brass buckle. Well I'll take it but you can imagine the thrill when I thought it may be a baby U.S. ...and then the low when I realized it wasn't.... and then the "well it is still a cool buckle" that brought me back to par ;D ;D ;) I think that it may be a colonial buckle as deep as it was which is not at all uncommon for these parts.
Sorry as it is ALL fresh out of the ground and still dirty ;)

Hey MaesterEagle. I would think over there in Missouri you should find on before long. Besides Virginia and Georgia, Missouri would be the other choice for me. I see alot of you guys over there finding some nice Civil War relics from all those Guerillas!! ;) But I know what you mean, I still get a rush each and every time that I find a 3 ringer because I know I am the first person to touch that piece of history since it was loaded up and shot by a Union Soldier in 1862.

That "blob" looking thing on the left in the center. I am cleaning it as we speak.

Josh,
Outstanding job. I'd be VERY excited with those finds. Congrats.
Please lose the "Made in China" holder they are in though. It doesn't look right with those CW finds in it. ;D ;)
Great job.

HAHAHA I know I THOUGHT the SAME thing too Doug. That is the case that came with my pair of Koss Earphones from KellyCo. I dont like that tag either >:( ;) :D ;D It was just a quick snapshot to throw up on Tnet and I will probably end up changing out the picture as I concur, that SHO don't look right ;D ;)

Sentinel, you are just the best metal detector in the whole world, could you offer some pointers?

Yea, it would be nice Kyle. I thought for sure that it was going to be one as this was near the same spot where I found my last U.S. plate.

Oh yeah, I'd be more than happy to give you some pointers CC ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Wow that was deep. Sometimes you just have to trust your detector and keep digging. :D Nice relic recovery Sentinel.
