Can anyone tell me if this is a good or decent detector? I have a Bounty Hunter/Treasure Hunter XJ9.

I am VERY NEW to this and have been twice now and I got 2 quarters, some kind of metal piece I am still trying to determine what it is, loads of beer cans, and 3 bottle caps, one of those were made in Jamaica ;D

Thanks for any help you can give me and please be honest. I NEED to know what I got here. ;D

I looked at both the XJ9 and the 3030. I was told to stay clear of them, I don't know why but I would like to. They seemed like pretty nice looking machines, but you can't judge a book by it's cover.

Thanks for the reply Mike. Being new and not knowing a whole lot about them, I started reading and to tell you the truth after reading on a bunch of them they all started to sound alike ;D

I would just like for someone to say: It is good for this and that, but not good for this. :D

BULL, Don't Give up on your Detector. You'r finding things. It can't be all bad. Learn your Machine & enjoy your new Hobby. Maby somewhere down the Line You Can Upgrade. But For Now. It's not the Worst Machine Out there. by the Way WELCOME, hope you stick around; & if you can post a Pic of the Unknown Item, Maby we can I.D. it for you ; jeff

Mike ; I don't know the detector, But He's finding Things. Therefore It Aint the Worst........................................ NICK ; Sorry, Not Gonna Happen. I don't want to start Arguments

The machine BULL bought is a Treasure Hunter, is that another BH sub-brand

Thats kind of what I am trying to find out also. :-[ But like you said I am at least finding somethings ;D

I satill get confused when I read some of you guys talk about the different tones and especially the weak tones or soft tones. I have not found those yet. Fixing to buy a set of headphones this weekend. Any suggestions on brands or types etc?

I really appreicate the posts and the help.

Bull, when you go for Phones, Take your detector with. DON't Buy open Air Phones (I hope you know what I mean) get a pair With Volume Control. Headphones will save on Battery Life & Double your Depth, by blocking out Backround noise & help you concentrate & hear those Weak Tones ... I DON'T KNOW IF YOU NEED STEREO OR MONO PHONES

also if you wanna Hear If it has different tones, Run a Can tab or Nickle under the coil, Then Run A quarter under. you should hear a high tone on Quarter & low tone on Nickle or Tab. IF IT HAS TONAL DISCRIMINATION

BULL: Your Treasure Hunter XJ9 is not a Bounty Hunter product. It is imported by Chapman's LT Plus. Go to Lost Treasure online magazine and click on the Field Test tab, then on the Chapman's LT Plus tab. They have a field test of the All Vision Pro (model below yours) and the MD-3010 (model above yours, now called the MD-3030). It might give some insight onto what you've got there. If you like it and are finding stuff, stay with it until you figure out what type(s) of hunting you want to pursue and what brand/model of machine will fit your needs the best. Giving yourself some time to get comfortable with the hobby and time to learn your machine will allow you to upgrade if and when you want to with the knowledge and confidence to be successful. Hope this helps. BBJ

Thanks John, Saves Me Typing ;D The XJ9 has a Microcompressor & looks more like a Fisher to me.

Thanks Mike. I didn't see where there From ?

I decided to re-read the description for thr XJ9 and this is what I found.

"the Treasure Hunter All Vision Pro will detect targets with tremendous accuracy at depths of up to 33cm ! !"

Not too impressive, 33cm=13"
