Dealing with EMI?

I always think to myself, he's swinging awful fast!

I agree, and he's also missing a ton of real estate. Maybe that's his style?

Back in the early '80's I had a White's 5000 DII, and set it up with an extended shaft and a hip mount. With that machine, the faster you moved that coil the better the discrimination and the deeper it hunted. I remember digging a 1902 IH penny that was better than 14" down, and found it along the sideline of the athletic field at a community college that was only a dozen years old a the time. Research said it was pasture prior to that.

I still prefer low, slow, 50% lap of the coil.
No race needed.
It's been there for a 100-200+ yrs now so it's not going anywhere soon.
IDK if my overlap is 50%. I heard/saw someplace that, because the coils can detect a few inches outside their circumference, overlap isn't necessary, but IDK. I overlap a little anyway.

I agree there's no race--at least not where I detect. Club hunts seem more like a race.

I think I probably overlap an inch or two most times/places.

I'm slow, but that's because I'm a slow decrepit feeb.

Old school habits are stuck sometimes.
This explains it pretty well.
