DAY 12 ON THE BULLET FIELD.............

I have done the Range (at least the first 200 yards in the field that I have permission), the other 600 yards is a turfing field. So it is time to finish the Bullet Field.

Instead of plodding on in the bullet area on the top of the field, of which I have about 2 days left, I decided to chase older stuff on the steep slop at the end of the field.

Plan worked, got less bullets & a few bits:
1720s 'Dump' Farthing
Nice early Lead Token with WD on it.
A early Lead-alloy flat button with hearts on it.
And a WHATZIT:

Yeap, had several squashed thimbles off this field & most I do.

The main reason being that in the days before machinery, the Men, Women & children wore them on each finger under their gloves. This was to protect them from the pain of straw spiking betwen their nails.

Nice finds Dug and a good bit of history about the thimbles! I think the whatsit is a whizzer toy, a string through it looped around, spin it a bit and pull the string and it would have spun back and forth by pulling the string. HH and nice finds, Mike
