This crest ring was found in a CS camp but there were house sites near there so I'm not sure of the date on this one. The ring has had the face removed and the crest applied with what looks like lead. The ring looks like it was hand made to me. But it is stamped 14K, when did they start marking jewelry, I have another gold ring that is not marked that is a Civil War solders wedding band. I would like to know if this could be a ring from the Civil War period, and if anyone has seen this crest before. Some nice friends of TreasureNet reduced the pics for me below, thanks to all. HH

Re-sized it a little

Tee Hee, I thought the previous owner had extremely large fingers! But I haven't a clue, except it was probably an officer's ring. Most enlistees were fairly poor for the time. That is assuming it is of the Civil War era? Monty

The top part of your ring looks like white gold...if it is then it dates from the 1920's -on. That's when white gold alloy was first used in jewelry.

Congrats on finding a very nice Rampant Lion ring. Thrilla is correct on white gold being first used in the 1920's. "If" the top portion is platinum, the date would be late Victorian/Turn of the Century. Nice find, Breezie

Thanks to all and Breezie, Thank You! Now I can take it out of the Civil War collection. It looked like turn if the century to me too, but I had found several bullets in the same spot so I wasn't sure. Thanks again to everyone, this form is GREAT!
