Good afternoon fellow detectorers,

I had posted the items for identification early, except the crotel bell which was found on a previous hunt. I gave the Indian a short peroxide bath to remove some of the green crud that was on the coin after just washing with soap and water. The flat button was identified as a dandy button, pre 1800 I was told. The crotal bell's age is unknown. I have found 4 lantern tops already at the site. The bullet I found was pre-civil war. We just got a bunch of rain today so I'll be back over there soon to see what else I can dig from this historic site. Thanks for looking and I hope you are not getting tired of my post of the same place. I am too thorough sometimes. Ron

I am a lucky person to be able to hunt such an old place while no one lives there. I've only found 3 wheaties and a merc. Everything else has be mid 1800's, 1842 being the oldest yet.

are there no initials on the bell??

Where would they be. I have no idea :icon_scratch: I looked inside and see nothing. The bell is broken in half :-\

they would be in the middle of the pattern you can see directely opposite the loop(google crotal bells)

they are on the outside of the bell!

amazing that we all find bells with the same makers marks!

I found the atlas at the county library. The survey plats for the county were done in 1876. I had sent off to a company on the east coast and they wanted 5 bucks a page. I found the exact atlas they were using at the local library. The JA McDonald house was in that atlas, too. Must have been a rich man back in those days to have his house sketched from a company in Cincinnati, Ohio. I then had them enlarged a put the pieces together. There are 6 towships for this county. Most of the roads match up. Some roads were not even there in 1876. I have found several errors where roads have been changed around by use of Ariel photos and mapquest
