FINALLY got to the beach with the 250, albeit only for an hour. Not very productive, only .25 in clad, a few pull tabs and a piece of foil. I was a little frustrated in the wet sand, I was getting "trash" hits (single beep on the low side) every ten feet or so at 50% sensitivity. It was definately the sand in at least two of the holes; the deeper I dug the wetter it got and the stronger and more widespread the pinpoint would go, kind of like under a metal swingset or against a fence at the playground. When I have more time I will try experiementing with a bit lower sensitivity in the wet stuff. As I moved up away from the wet line (still damp) I was only getting hits on targets, so much better. I used an old pier as a guide to keep my passes straight, and covered probably about a 500 sq ft area; a bit rushed due to the time constraint but I just wanted to get a feel for it and hit anything I could. The hotels are pretty busy, so I think I may head back Monday morning after the crowds. I only had to answer the "whatchya lookin for?" question twice. ::)

Summary: any day detecting is a good day, especially a day in the 60's with a light breeze on the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico !

I hit Bradenton Beach today, I may go up to Anna Maria on Monday. Takes me about 20 mins with traffic to get to either. My wife and I were up in St Pete last week for a couple of days, there unfortunately wasn't the time to get to the beach. If you're ever available late morning/early afternoon on a weekday let me know and perhaps we can hook up. The weekends are a little harder given the kids (my wife's back in the hospital again, and will probably be for a while).

I loved Anna Maria Island beach when I was a young man and the sunsets with a pretty girl.Never detected it just fished off the pier.My sister lived in bradenton and I would spend my summers there.

Hey, I used to live down that way (St Pete). I still get down there once in a while. I think St. Johns pass would be a great place to MD. Madeira beach would also be on my list. When I lived there, I wasn't into MDing. Good luck!

Life is a beach! Hey guys, let us know about some of those finds. Jim Cal

KevFl, How does that 250 work on the beach and what settings do you use? Thanks, Jim Cal

Jim,

In the dry/damp sand it works as spectacular as it does on solid ground. I found it a little sensitive to the wet sand closer to the water, but I was still running at 50% and didn't take the time to make adjustments as I had less than an hour to spare that day. At 50% in wet sand I'd say it is comparable to running 100% on dry land, the same kind of chirps and beeps, so there is still lots of room for improvement on the settings to make it work. My real clue that it was the wet sand causing the trouble was when I re-pinpointed in the hole, the pinpoint signal spread out more and more the wetter it got. I have faith in the little yellow one and will be making those adjustments next time.

Omni and I were going to go out to Anna Maria today but the weather took a turn and we've had some nice t-storms rolling through this morning. Probably for the best, his family's under the weather and I haven't slept much the past 48 hours or so. I'm going to try to head out on Friday, I'll have had some time to rest and hopefully the weather will cooperate. I'll report back after I've had time to readjust the settings and hopefully have something shiny to show for it!

Omni, if you're back on your feet and can make it down, give me a hollar! I'll be free after 10 again.

Time to go crash for a bit before the kiddos get home. HH to all!
