Nice group of finds John. WTG. Haven't tried relic hunting yet myself. Still looking for that pot o' gold.

I'm curious about those bullits. Were they scattered over a large area or close together like they were dropped? They don't appear to have been shot. Thanks and now go out there swinging! HH
JG, The Drops were Pretty Much in line about 50yrds Long, Most Likely a Firing Position For The Union Troops. trk5capt...

Excellent finds TRK5! Some nice history brought back to life. I'd go back and sift that area where the doll was, maybe you can get the hands and feet. Would be cool to be able to recreate the doll. HH and thanks for the post, Mike

Hey, trk, Is that a toe plate I see? I've never seen one with such big holes if it is.

Can't help you with the neat doll head. I didn't play with dolls.....was playing baseball everyday with the boys! ;D
HAUPIN, Yes It is a Toe Plate, Most Likely Confederate, Looks to have been reused with many different sized tacks. Thanks for Looking. trk5capt...

Re: CW SKIRMISH SITE FINDS & A MYSTERY

That sounds like a good plan...skip work and go treasure hunting. ;D I like that military button. I don't have any civil war places to detect around here.

Re: CW SKIRMISH SITE FINDS & A MYSTERY

My grandmother who lived to be 102 told me a story about the Civil war that her grandmother told her. Seems that if the skirmish was near a soldier's home it was not unusual for the soldier's wife or family to huddle on a hill nearby and watch. After the battle they would go down on the field at night so as not to get shot and look for their dead. My great great grandmother went onto a battle field somewhere in Arkansas and found her brother at night. They were afraid to use a light for obvious reasons and found him by feeling the dead soldier's feet. He was wearing homemade shoes that my great great grandmother had made for him. They found him and took him home to be buried. The only reason I am telling this story is because it is possible one of a dead soldier's family had been searching for him and perhaps a little girl, daughter or niece had dropped the doll at night and couldn't find it in the dark. An interesting thought. Monty

Hey Trk5capt, Very nice CW relics! I especially like the star heel plate behind the toe plate. I f you look on the front edge ot the toe plate they usually have a date stamped on them. I hope Art can get back out to hunt with you soon. Let me know if you spot the date. Tim

I doubt it was homemade. They just had one a few nights ago on Antique Roadshow, and it had no visable markings either. The appraiser said it was made in Germany. It still had paint on it, but it looked very much like yours. And it was just the head portion like yours. I believe it was somewhere in the area of 2000~4000 if I remember correctly.

Very nice finds!

Re: CW SKIRMISH SITE FINDS & A MYSTERY

What a beautiful doll, I can only imagine the little girl that lost it was heartbroken. Gypsy did a wonderful job showing you what she once would have looked like.
It would be neat to display her with a picture of what she would have looked like in a shadow box on a bedroom wall.

A real super find! ;)
