Re: CW SKIRMISH SITE FINDS & A MYSTERY

I'm not one of the lady folk but I'll take a shot at the doll head. I'd take a wild guess of ca. 1820 a glazed porcelain doll head or maybe a bisque (ceramic) head.

If it is you just found enough money to buy yourself a very nice gold coin.

It depends on condition and rarity but these can bring anywhere from $100 to several thousand dollars. It most depends on WHO made it.

Great finds!

I also love hunting those skirmish sites.

Cool finds, keep up the good work!! Sorry, no help on the doll, but if I was to guess, I'd say mid 1800's. HH

Re: CW SKIRMISH SITE FINDS & A MYSTERY

Nice civil war finds Capt. The doll head is very cool. Is she broke or nice and flat on the bottom. I found a similar head made of metal at a old site. But she was broke off a statue. She looks really well perserved and you never know what your gonna find out there.

Hope you don't mind me attaching a pic of the head I had. Just made me think of it. Too bad she's broke. Probably would have been one nice statue.

JER, Not A Crack On This One. If I Had To Guess The Body Was Made Of Something That Rotted Away And Left The Head Behind. trk5capt...

Re: CW SKIRMISH SITE FINDS & A MYSTERY

I could see a younge girl right now as we speak running through the woods with her doll. Probably trying to get out of the area to make sure nothing happened to them. Dropped the doll along the way. Mom said no time to stop. Those times were tough.

Wow I cant believe you found that doll head and its not broke....Now go back and get her arms and feet. The rest of her would have been cloth or leather...are there any markings on the back of her neck or shoulder plate .Her features would have been painted on ,worn off now due to exposure....yours has a closed mouth with no teeth exposed which adds to the value...looks to be china ...Nice find ...but some little girl was crying somewhere over her loss......

Re: CW SKIRMISH SITE FINDS & A MYSTERY

It is rare to find pieces like that intact ,some times in some of the old dump sites you may come across dolls, toys and other glass items that are chiped or cracked...that is one nice find and lucky that it is intact....Great finds.....Seeker

Re: CW SKIRMISH SITE FINDS & A MYSTERY

Nice group of finds John. WTG. Haven't tried relic hunting yet myself. Still looking for that pot o' gold.

I'm curious about those bullits. Were they scattered over a large area or close together like they were dropped? They don't appear to have been shot. Thanks and now go out there swinging! HH
