***********UPDATED PICTURES 6 comment boxes below **********. Hit the same old CW battlefield I have been for a while and found a few items i need help with. 1. I found several of these button type items that seem to have some type of material between them (maybe leather). 2. And then i found something that is small with a handle and looks maybe like a small old shaver razor. 3. Small lead ball (not sure what a bullet looks like once it fired so maybe that is a fired mini ball?) 4. a small piece of what looks like chewed lead (white patina like bullets I found). Any help IDing these items would be great.
Thanks for looking.KEEP SWINGING

Acm,that is a neat looking relic with the handle. It's really interesting so therefore I'm putting this thread on my subscribed list. It almost looks like a hand made tool that was used to dig bullet fragments from soldiers or part of a broken pocket knife.

1- Your "button type items" are brass rivets for attaching two thick pieces of leather together -- but they are seldom found with some leather remaining, so congrats about that.
2- It does resemble a small straight-razor whose handle is partly broken off... but the handle looks too thin compared to the blade. To check whether it actually is a blade, remove some rust-crust to see if one edge is razor-thin and the other edge is a LOT thicker.
3- The patina on the small ball looks like what is found on very-impure lead, which suggests it might be an artillery shell antipersonnel (case-shot) ball. You didn't say anything about the large iron object in the photo... if that is a shell-fragment, it would add "weight" to the case-shot ball guess. :)
4- It appears to be a Minie bullet that has been heavily chewed by a wild hog. Human teeth would break before doing even a little bit of that kind of damage to a lead bullet. The truth is, nearly all of the chewed bullets we dig are the result of wild pigs thinking they've found an acorn. Plus, when chewed, lead tastes sweet.

I believe that is a straight razor blade. The handle is gone, what you see is the finger rest. Tony

TheCannonballGuy: Thanks! I found the "button type items" all in a row. The row was about 5 feet long and I thought it might be a burial hole (yikes) but did not find anything else. I still wonder what it could have been used on and thought maybe it was not CW era (still stumped). 2. I will electrolysis the axe head and handled tool this weekend and repost. the large iron object is a small axe head.
It was a great day overall and can't wait to dig the other hits I did not have time to dig (2x2 foot area I found all the 3 ringers)

Ok. I cleaned this thing with some water and a stiff brush and now I am thinking it is pewter. Any thoughts? The other items I think are SOLVED, but this one is still confusing me.:BangHead:

Also cleaned the axe head using electrolysis and it came out nice! Thanks everyone for your comments and help so far! I hope to head out this weekend and hit that area again since i left several signals still in the ground. I love this hobby!

Looks to me like an old shaving razor, especially with the little curved end and wide blade. Of course it is missing the bone or tortoise shell handle.

It does look like pewter. 3 rivet holes. I'm thinking fork or maybe knife handle. Either way... eating utensil.

The straight razor shape is coincidental.

But still could be Civil War era.

I was thinking razor also until I saw the cleaned pictures. Now that seems an impossibility. However, I have no clue.
