What is the wall thickness of the cannon section at it's thinnest? Has the right profile, but the wall thickness seems too thin for a cannon barrel.
Very nice dig's and awesome button's  I kind of agree with Steve on the cannon piece.....what's the size of the opening too?

Nice Finds!! The bracket with the two holes in it to the right of the 45-70 cartridge is from a U.S. Cavalry saddle as shown on page 60 of Stanley Phillip's book "Excavated Artifacts from Battlefields and Campsites of the Civil War 1861-1865" Supplement 1. Nice buttons. HH, Quindy.

Nice ID on the Saddle bracket, found close to Cav. button. Any ideas who wore that huge Cav. Button, (OFFICER)? it's bigger than a coat button? Thanks
I'm not that well versed on buttons but I think it may be a "Great Coat Button" where the normal roughly 23 mm size are for jackets. I can't read the backmark. Post it and Sentinel, Civilman 1, or Buckleboy may i.d. it for you. Very nice Indian War cav. site there, Quindy.

Great info!! The iron piece opening is right around 2"3/4. Just no water pipes in the area? Anyway thanks for all your help.
