Actually it saved my year because it was looking like this would be the first year since 2011 that I didn’t find any Spanish Silver. So on the 350[SUP]th[/SUP] day, and probably my last hunt of the year; I managed to avoid the shutout!

I had made plans with a friend to hit a couple sites on Sunday, but after all the rain we got Friday and Saturday, I almost called the hunt off. Needless to say it was a wet, soggy, muddy day. The first site was a tavern site that I have pounded pretty hard. I managed to find 4 buttons and a U shaped piece of brass. One of the buttons has a nice silvered design. Then we moved on to a 1758 French & Indian War site that sits in really low ground. There was standing water all through the field. This site had previously given up a lot of .69 caliber British Brown Bess musket balls, a few KG II, buttons, bayonet and sword scabbard clips, and one other cut piece of Spanish. But again it’s at the point where signals are hard to come by.

Here is a pic of the French & Indian War site. Standing water all through the field.

After digging my first .69 caliber musket ball, I got another signal that was a lower VDI. I isolated the signal to a clump of dirt, Broke it in half and saw the cut piece staring at me!

It's a larger than normal quarter cut from a 2 reale Pistareen. It's from the Segovia, Spain mint. I'm told it would date from 1719 to 1729. It's in nice condition with great detail. This is my 19th cut piece and 69th Spanish silver overall.

Here are a couple dirty balls I pulled from the mud yesterday :laughing7:

And here is my take from both sites. I like the silver plated button with the design.

Thanks for looking and happy holidays to all

Great detail on the cut silver....
imagine what the other three pieces look like.... all worn and circulated, unidentifiable hunks of crap...maybe someday in the hands of another detectorist, like me.

saved the day, heck that would make a month or more for me! congrats

Congratulations of the Spanish cut bottom of the 8th you stepped to the plate, pointed and hit it out the park. Love the button and nothing like 69 lead. Way to finish off the year.

You must not have been watching the the game. There were two outs in the bottom of the ninth, and I was down to my last strike.....:laughing7:

Awesome Spanish cut silver! That would save anyone’s day

I agree your determination to hunt in some ugly conditions really paid off in a nice way. Congrats on the cut silver save.
