Actually it saved my year because it was looking like this would be the first year since 2011 that I didn’t find any Spanish Silver. So on the 350[SUP]th[/SUP] day, and probably my last hunt of the year; I managed to avoid the shutout!

I had made plans with a friend to hit a couple sites on Sunday, but after all the rain we got Friday and Saturday, I almost called the hunt off. Needless to say it was a wet, soggy, muddy day. The first site was a tavern site that I have pounded pretty hard. I managed to find 4 buttons and a U shaped piece of brass. One of the buttons has a nice silvered design. Then we moved on to a 1758 French & Indian War site that sits in really low ground. There was standing water all through the field. This site had previously given up a lot of .69 caliber British Brown Bess musket balls, a few KG II, buttons, bayonet and sword scabbard clips, and one other cut piece of Spanish. But again it’s at the point where signals are hard to come by.

Here is a pic of the French & Indian War site. Standing water all through the field.

After digging my first .69 caliber musket ball, I got another signal that was a lower VDI. I isolated the signal to a clump of dirt, Broke it in half and saw the cut piece staring at me!

It's a larger than normal quarter cut from a 2 reale Pistareen. It's from the Segovia, Spain mint. I'm told it would date from 1719 to 1729. It's in nice condition with great detail. This is my 19th cut piece and 69th Spanish silver overall.

Here are a couple dirty balls I pulled from the mud yesterday :laughing7:

And here is my take from both sites. I like the silver plated button with the design.

Thanks for looking and happy holidays to all

Excellent hunting, Steve and grats on that fine little piece of silver. I hope to find Spanish silver some day.

Great finds! I know it was pretty muddy down here in GA yesterday as well!

Congratulations on the Spanish silver! :occasion14:

Congrats. Colonial silver is tough to find especially when you do it at a previously pounded site. Only once have I found Spanish silver on a site I thought was done

That’s a beautiful one to add to your collection. That must have been a miserable hunt in the mud, holes filling with water, but one target can make your year. Congrats!!

Nice finds. I’m still looking for my first cut silver. Hoping for a planters bank counter struck spanish, but......

I was real lucky yesterday. My buddy only found a couple large head wagon strake spikes, and I only got two musket balls and the cut piece. The last time I was at this spot, I got a lot more.

Even more miserable due to a bonehead move I made when we first got to the site. i wanted to try a hayfield on the other side of a lagoon from the main site. I tried crossing by stepping on clumps of dead grass, but I was soon over my head, or should I say my boots! To make matters worse I didn't find anything over there and had to make the wet crossing again, getting water in both my boots. I was ready to quit right there but I'm glad I didn't.

That is one great find! I found one Spanish silver my first year and haven't found one since.... but I know they are out there!

Great history saves!

Kind of a shame that reale was cut, it would've been a beauty in its entirety.

That cut silver is in very nice shape, such crisp detail.

Awesome piece of silver - hope you washed your muddy balls :icon_thumright:

Very well done.
Cut silver is an awesome find.

Congrats, I hope to find a Spanish silver some day.

Have you been able to match any of the cut pieces to the same coin?

Not yet. I think that would be pretty hard to do. They would have to be cut and lost at the same site

Sweet Spanish silver sucks to get wet. but good you kept going Well done, Tommy

The Silver is beautiful but can you imagine being hit by one of those musket balls! Like way more than Ouch!!...............63bkpkr
