Don't know if I have ever mentioned it but my wife and I have our hands full raising a 20 year old, 193 lbs, special needs son. He's 100% incontinent and has no speech whatsoever. This after already having raised a 30 year old son and 26 year old daughter. I've just gone back to work this past Sept too so needless to say there is little time for anything let alone metal detecting. So if I don't post or comment on your finds it doesn't mean I'm not looking and admiring as a lurker. I did just step down to 4 days a week so maybe we'll be a little more active in the farm fields. Lord I hope so.

Anyway, here's what we've found the last 4 or 5 trips out. We can only do 4 hrs at a time as thats all the respite we can get at a time from our son. I got the half cut 2 reales as my last find yesterday around 3pm. The cufflinks just before. I had my Deus cranked to 99 sens, 0 disc, 3 reactivity and -1 silencer, manual gb at 87. What i was doing was eking out finds in the dense iron bed. Lots of promise with this method. Its only good for the iron bed of course. What it seems to be doing is amplifying the non ferrous tones. But you have to listen close. This cut 2 reales is hands down the worst sounding silver reale I ever dug. But I took the chance on the crappy signal and it was a nice surprise. The cuff links have what appears to be silver or tinned material under the glass gems and show what may be 4 leaf clovers. I want to clean them but scared to take the chance.

I dug the other cut Spanish when we were last out. My wife got the pillar half reale and the Conn copper B4 that. I still need to brush off the 1831 large cent but it looks to be a real keeper. I dug a small cannon ball (will be making a video soon) and my wife found what may be a gun flint.

HH, Gary and Jo

WTG on the Spanish. Unfortunately almost all of my colonial sites thus far have only given up one or none on the Spanish silver. Got nearly half a mason jar of British coppers though

Congrats on some fabulous finds! I wish you and your' wife the best at taking care of your' 20 year old son and at metal detecting when you can find time to get out! If you both were to clear out most of the Iron signals as possible, you might make many more fabulous and awesome finds but at the least, you will have plenty of Iron to take to the Recyclers.

Thank you. We really need to get digging some pits here. There's a huge dump underneath. A 20 x 25 colonial oyster midden which probably holds some amazing stuff.

Fantastic hunt, congratulations! :occasion14:

The cut 2 reales sounded and looked so bad I thought it might be counterfeit. But it cleaned up well. Some screen shots from the vids from when I found it.

Always envious of your finds and sites. Some gorgeous crisp detail on the Spanish but those links are killer man! Please please please dig some pits buddy. I’m begging you! You will lose your mind when you see what’s hiding in there

You've got some outstanding finds there...those silvers are phenomenal!

Fantastic digs-congratulations! so much good stuff there I'm not sure which one I like the most. Either the half pistareen or the cuff links.

killer! congrats :icon_thumright:

Same here with silver, rarely find any silver, even the later stuff. I guess people were a lot poorer where I am, most people around here were just farmers looks to get by without much money on them. I found 100 buttons and not even one copper (but one half real, somehow) at one site far from the center of town, but then at a site in the middle of town I found around 20 coppers. Also, I use mason jars for all of my buttons, buckles, musket balls etc, but don't have enough coppers for one. For my coppers I have a small plastic model computer from a 1980's computer expo with the keyboard able to be pulled out to reveal a drawer, in that drawer are all of my coppers lol.

I love the Spanish silver you have, very early compared to most of the stuff found where I am. They are in very nice condition too. That cufflink, coppers, and flint are awesome too!

gwdigger, may God grant you and your bride grace as you take care of your child. The joy of finding one of the best things I've seen in a while on this site pales in comparison to your responsibilities.

Nicely done, on both accounts.

The sheer amount of quality finds on your hunts is absolutely mind blowing Gary. Those cut glass links, dognose spoon handle, and chopped/diced/smothered/covered Spanish pieces are all incredible finds alone. Add in the rest and that’s one scorcher hunt bud.

Good luck at work and all the best

Great finds. The Spanish silver is in great condition, and it would be great to see the cufflinks cleaned up a bit. I've been a bit annoyed with my own lack of progress in finding anything of late, but your post offered me some much needed perspective. Thank you.
