The disconnect i referred to was todays view of fire arms use by prior to their actions "normal"citizens. I.e. guns are for solving disputes or revenge.
Mishandling and shooting some one then claiming an accident .
I,m not demanding mandatory training, but in inexperienced hands i don,t like the odds of intentional or unintentional use being effective. For some one to just grab one ....

Your mentioned disconnect defines an attitude of criminal well, its a mindset not easily understood by avg.non criminal.

It is easy to understand the mindset of a criminal. Take a moral, reasonable person as our base. First, take away any feelings of remorse for any reason. Second, take away any anticipation of punishment as a deterrent. Next, add impulsivity and insatiable urge for instant gratification. Remove feelings of love and loyalty for others. Remove responsibility to provide and protect others. Cut the number of brain cells in half but don't diminish to the point of stupidity. Add hopelessness of making an honest living in the world. Place a gun in their hands. Teach them to play Xbox. Shake vigorously for five minutes, add a garnish...you just found the formula for a KILLER.

1:-relevantchair....I see where you're coming from re law abiding citizens perhaps not having proper training and/or respect for firearms and yes accidents can and will happen....I'll grant you that.

2:-crispin....coming at it from a criminal mindset....no amount of laws, rules, regulations, etc....will protect us from the purely criminal elements of society....the
edge as you somewhat over dramatized in your above example is what gives them the advantage....

They don't play by the rules of what we consider normal, moral, rational, etc....

Criminals have more than just a killer form. I hear you on there being a type that has a lust for violence.
I would not want to try creating one that desires mayhem to prove its not hereditary,i think it would create a version regardless of whether an exact match or not.
Sadly there is something to society's child who could have gone another direction.
If criminals were the star fish in the story of the beach comber throwing them back in at low tide,while proven evil can be left stranded,... to the one novice (criminal,starfish), being given another chance through reform/intervention can make a difference if its not the same environment it left. Doesn,t happen. With exception of truly sociopathic the time for help is before being stranded.

HA! NOT only that... you have CULTURAL bias; "Honor Killings" are good examples (NOT saying "HK" is "good"), as SOME ppl from various cultures (even in America), think MURDER to save "Family Honor" is OK.

Since you asked...there is no crime gene. The current postulate is there is a deletion of genes that leads to sociopathic behavior. Course, environment....absolutely.
