With leaving rural life and self sufficiency behind for so many too the use of fire arms fell out of use.
The self imposed restrictions on consumerism and use of arms faded to today's abuses.
Anti gun does not want to take any one persons guns but take them out of the equasion to end their use in murder, as the root cause of murder and assault are beyond their ability to control. All have heard other possible reasons.
The same people who buy meat on neat little trays who let others do the raising and killing for them, blissfully ignorant and by now not knowing how to themselves any way are now more important enough than average citizens that they have an armed entourage (why? Others to do dirty work again?)would have others less capable of defence.
Strike at cause, not at defence of result of deviation..

Counterpoint: Society has evolved. Technology has evolved. Murder has evolved. I do not want to take anybody's gun away. Sociopaths, psychopaths, serial killers, murderers...they have always existed and will always continue to exist. We have no hope against such an evil. The best we can do is discover them and destroy them. We cannot prevent the loss of life or innumerable amounts of pain they will inflict. Always has been, always will be...tis human nature.

However! That does not mean we accept death by gun as a necessity of our society. We continue to compromise, we continue to work with each other, we continue to trust the good men of this earth in order to look for a solution. I would pick up my samurai sword and fight to the death before I let TH's guns taken from him. He is an honorable man and worthy of the right. They would not have to pry the gun out of his cold dead fingers only after they first pried the samurai sword out of mine.

We do not accept death, we do not accept Va. Tech, we do not accept Columbine, we do not accept Aurora, we do not accept Sandy Hook! We study the past, us, the good men of this earth, we work together to try and prevent it.

Don't get brainwashed, we are all children of a lesser God, we need each other to survive, we are on the same team...politics and money divides. We must rise above this.

Take it away stocky...

Yet beyond the criminally inclined is a disrespect for life. Fostered by our society and new ways. Misuse of fire arms has risen with that disconnect from fair play and a previous belief that hey, life is not all ways fair but you can be. Family and community an important part of attitude. Environment affects evolution of scruples.

Agreed. Environment affects evolution of scruples. Society, men, the constitution, all evolve with the change in times. The criminally inclined have always had a disrespect for life and always will. This has been true since man has been on this earth. Guns have been a part of our society and new ways prior to the constitution. This is nothing new. The disconnect has always been there. I, the youth, am not content to accept it. It is not so easy for me to dig my feet in the ground and wait for the end. If the end is coming, so be it, I will not go quietly into that goodnight.

To you the youth lays the future. With or with out guns. The constant of dispute and the resolution there of will be where society goes, forward or backwards with inevitable change. Only one issue but important.

Yes, agreed. Counterpoint to myself, respect and revere my elders, through their knowledge and wisdom is my best and truest path to understanding. A fool disregards those who have borne the sword and trod the path. Accumulation of wisdom and knowledge sets homo sapiens apart from other species. Any animal can learn from each other. Only humans, have developed a system to study the past and imbed knowledge to the future.

Elders need to be there and be communicated with. For many even a pair of parents nonexistent. In an environment where illegal activity is an accepted norm youth are misled by acquired knowledge. Denied option of breaking norm cycle can repeat.
Can we learn to care? There are still to many children going to bed hungry and worse scared. That's on current generation again,as with past.
We still bleed the same color but that has not stopped the blood letting.
Knowledge is worthless if not applied.

I think the best solution is just to legalize murder. It can't be stopped and the murderers don't care that its illegal. Lets just make it legal and tax it!! Back to you.

I don't think we should legalize murder. I think we should legalize murdering murderers...much more swiftly then our current process allows. It will not stop people from killing but it may slow things down a tad.

You can have your samurai sword, I prefer a Spartan xiphos

Is that the spear thing? You got a picture?

Folks,

I've been reading through this thread......I was going to say I was confused but that's a cop out.....so I'll throw my 2 cents into the pot for what it's worth.

3 of my older brothers as well as my father were avid hunters....why??? pure and simple to put food on the table....a rifle wasn't used for protection or target practice for that matter....bullets cost to much for a subsistence farm family....

I guess where the disconnect comes is not whether or not the general public should be armed or not....like Crispin I have zero interest in taking guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens....

The disconnect comes into play where the criminal element has zero respect for the laws and human life....and I don't think anyone regardless of which way you lean on the gun issue has the foggiest idea of what if any solution would work....

I rest my case.

one thing would help. first degree murder, death penalty. You commit first degree murder, your right to life is revoked. May not stop another person from doing it, but no one would do it twice

amen brother, and carry the sentence out quickly.

The disconnect i referred to was todays view of fire arms use by prior to their actions "normal"citizens. I.e. guns are for solving disputes or revenge.
Mishandling and shooting some one then claiming an accident .
I,m not demanding mandatory training, but in inexperienced hands i don,t like the odds of intentional or unintentional use being effective. For some one to just grab one ....

Your mentioned disconnect defines an attitude of criminal well, its a mindset not easily understood by avg.non criminal.
