I took a ride up to The Bronx today. I hunted this park last week and there was a slight coating of frost in some areas. Today I had a grove of trees in mind but didn't expect to encounter frozen ground because it pretty much rained all night and never dropped below freezing.
I found the CTX to be well balanced so the difference in weight between the E-Trac and the CTX didn't matter. I used the stock coil and started out in COINS, program #1. The VDI numbers are pretty much the same as the E-Trac. My first coin was a nickel. I found that to be funny because there is a park that I sometimes hit on weekends,, where it seems every coil swinger that hits that park tends to use a CTX. These guys don't dig too many shallow coins, which leaves an abundance of nickels.
I hit 3 targets that produced a 1- 41 or a 1- 43 VDI. That is a Silver Dollar Signal. In all 3 cases these deep targets turned out to be large Copper or Brass items. I recovered a brass veteran's coin as well as a brass token that were both close to the size of a Silver Dollar, but they both came in like quarters. The feature that I most enjoyed today was the VDI that pretty much was on the money by identifying the target as Iron. Saved a bit of digging because this machine doesn't scream like the E-Trac when the coil goes over Silver and sometimes Iron and Silver will come in with identical audio reports. I'm going to try to get back to this spot again tomorrow. I got a feeling about this grove.
My finds for the day were: 28q, 28d, 6n, 30 nickels, 4 Wheat Pennies, (25, 46(2), & 56d), and an 1956d Silver Roosevelt Dime.
I also recovered a Veteran's Coin, a Seagram's Token, a small brass item that is folded shut but I think it contains a lens for starting Campfires, a junk hoop earring, key, beaded chain, and some copper and brass scrap.
