Well folks ive been hunting this spot for about two months now and have been finding some purdy cool items but never thought I would have pulled this baby out of the dirt...Im purdy sure its real but I see that there are alot of fakes how can I tell for sure and how much do I need to clean it??

I would leave that baby just like it is. Green patina and just a lil dirt and rare and beautiful. That's what I see my friend. You just dug something the rest of us dream about finding. Congrats congrats congrats

If you dug it in a site you have been digging CW relics there should be no reason to doubt it brother. You just pulled the Holy Grail of CW relics out my friend. Congrats sounds lame for such a find. Banner worthy beyond a doubt. Getting my Vote.

No Expert Here Either .

But it looks real IMO & With all 3 Hooks attached
I don't have a Plate Ref, book ( have not needed one ,cause I've never dug a plate)
Anyhow In my Relic Quest Book There,s a Plate of that style pictured on page 430
The pics, 99% Identical and says "Confederate belt plate , Sand cast with rounded Corners .
(the book does not show a picture of the back).
