Cru'Dads 3 Year Gold Coin Slump - ENDS TODAY!!!

Firstly as Cru'Dad is not a member please save any wasted banner votes as they don't count.

Our plan for the day was simple finish off the edges of a couple of Roman Sites. We guessed it may take an hour or two per site & we would hit 3 sites. Well the first site took 3 hours 30 minutes & the second took 2 hours, with 30 minutes on a neighbouring field. (6 hours total)
Dad started well with a 1st C AD Hod Hill Fibula & was in the lead with the Roman Coin count (end result was 10 to Dad 17 to me:laughing7: )
However, after close to 3 years with no gold coins Dad finally hit this lovely Qrter Gold Stater of Tasciovanus (20BC), see full details on link:

The story is this; after yesterday when I only got 1 button, I said 30 minutes into the hunt that it would be hard to get one today, you guessed it the next dig was a button. So I said, what I meant was 'it will be hard to get a Celtic Gold today', as a joke because we had no chance. After another 30 minutes or so, Dad flipped an inch & a half of soil over & said in such a way 'I don't believe it' that I shout 'you got a Celtic Gold, haven't you?' I got the camera out but the pictures never came out well, sorry!

27 Roman Bronze Coins
2 Roman Fibula
Part of a Roman Buckle Plate
Roman Ring

A cracking end to the weekend:wav:

Looking at the size, the coin must not give much of a signal. For that reason, the find is that much more of a trophy:notworthy:

well struck and centered.

SS

My thoughts exactly.
Sure is a beauty, worth the three year wait.
Man are they small, easy to loose, man they are small, hard to find.

Hard to imagine it waited there so long to be rescued.

BIG CONGRATS.

Quite simply amazing:hello2: that's a beautiful coin.
Congrats to CruDad.

That coin looks great. Nice piece of history! :icon_thumright:

Beautiful coin. Congrats to your dad!

Big congrats to your dad!! One beautiful coin!

Awesome coin!!!

Nice one!!!!

Detail is very nice on the gold coin - given the great age of it. The damage on each side is oddly symmetrical - wonder if it was once in a setting of some sort?

I would have tried my luck one more time then and would've said that it would be hard to find a viking hoard.

Absolutely beautiful. Grats to you both.

There is no damage to the coin, the cracked edges happens when they strike the coin between the dies. It happens more times than not, only 1 of my coins has 'near' perfect edges. If they were I would begin to think modern fake.

That is a beauty looks like it was made yesterday great find :headbang: Jim

That sure is a beauty! Congrats to your Dad!!
