I found this the other day at a permission that dates to the 1700s. It was about 8" down. Made of copper i think, maybe brass. I believe when it was whole there were two more snakes on the broken end. The design looks familiar but i haven't been able to figure it out. Found in the same hole was the bent over rosehead square nail which fits the hole in it.

Definitely made of stamped brass, looks to be a drawer handle face plate. :thumbsup:
Yours looks to be mid-19thc in design.

Here are some complete examples, not from the same date period, but you get the idea. :laughing7:

Jormungand. The Midgard Serpent. Offspring of Loki and was cast into the ocean and grew so large as to surround the world. I’m going with that as the theme.
