We spent about 2 hours gridding around the small hotspot where the hammered came out but we got no other signs. We also tried the 30 minutes in the next field but only pulled out a broken Medieval Buckle & a plain buckle plate.
Dad did save the day a bit - with a Roman Coin.
We should have a better plan next outing...

Nothing short about those finds.

Crudads roman coin must been the one roman which is in every field. At least my Lady says that when one coin is the only thing what shows up...

Nice finds, gz !

Was his Roman coin a normal bronze?

At least you finished gridding the site. Could've been anything there with a couple of hammered silvers coming up previously.

Cheers,

Buck

Its odd, because we had a couple in a nearby field & thought that we were close to a site, in fact we hope this field was it. We did have a couple of nails & pot & this 1 coin in this field. But we are now thinking that the nearby Medieval trackway started in the Roman period, & the site is on land we don't have permission.

Thats too bad. Pottery and coins don't fall out the sky so there must be something around...

It's strange on how concentrated finds can be sometimes where a hedge row/ditch can be like a light switch for finds. Is there any chance of a future permission for the land that you don't have now?

Yes, we know the name of the owner from some field workers, so the hill spot we like the looks of might one day be an option. No hurry though we have plenty of stronger options, this is a bit of a long shot.

I think you had a great day!
