Cowboy Buckle and lots of Silver & IH's

Well I never expected to find a Cowboy buckle. Try as I might, I really wanted a CW plate, but I'll take this old
cowboy buckle any day. My partner and I got out Fri, Sat. and Monday and found some pretty good finds. We thought Saturday
was going to be a bust, hunted 3 sites, one of which we had to ford a stream to get to it, only to find it in corn stubble, really hard to hunt, will hit it in the fall. The forth site we hit Saturday, was the BEST!! We hunted this site at least 4 times this last winter and never found anything. Must have been the weather Saturday, hot and dry here in Ohio. I started off finding a couple of wheat penny's, while I was doing that Gary popped out a Barber quarter. I then found a couple more wheat's and then got a beer can signal, that just didn't sound right. I dug down and found a Cowboy Buckle. What a hobby, you just never know what you are going to find. Got out today, found a few wheat's and then on the way back to the car, got a signal and really thought it was a nickel on my F-75, but it turned out to be a nice silver ring. Don't think it is real silver, but nice find any ways.

According to my 1860 County atlas, this property which is a township in the same atlas, once held a church. That is how
my partner and I hunt, we look at old plat maps from the early years, go look at the site and hopefully nothing is there except
bricks, flag stone, broken dishes and of course coins. Most people say, there aren't any places to hunt, Yea Right, a little research on
anyone's part will reap many benefits. Of course we don't always find something.

We hunted Saturday at 3 other sites and the two of us came away with 3 wheat pennies total. Stopped at a old one room school house
that we hunted at least 4 times this last winter and had never found anything there. It was on the way home and we thought what the heck,
one more site to hunt before we call it a day. The ground was bone dry and the relics started popping out of the ground. This is where I
found the Cowboy Buckle and my partner found both of his Barber quarters here. Just goes to show you, as ground conditions change,
so does your metal detecting finds. When we hunted this winter, the ground was wet and MUDDY.

Good Luck,
Ringfinder

Great hunting and finds Dennis!

Thanks Tim, my buckle isn't a CW buckle, but here in Ohio, it will have to do. See you are having some really bad weather, it
hit here in Ohio today, raining right now. I'm glad, the soil was so dry. Now maybe I can go arrowhead hunting.

Nice finds. Are there any marks on the back of the buckle?
Jimbob

I couldn't find any Jim, I should have taken a picture of the back, it looks better than the front. Thanks for your comments.

Very nice. those places had quite a few early visitors. Like the buckle also.

I know, of course back in it's hay day, I'm sure they had lots of picnics and Ice cream socials at all these places. That's what you have to
think, when you hunt any site, where did they sit when it was hot, under a tree, they didn't have air conditioning back then. They went
to the school as a gathering place for all families close by. At a old church, they had picnics and Ice cream socials and reunions. Is there a creek near by, some of the kids might have played in it or went swimming, throwing their clothes on the bank and loosing who knows what.
I always try to picture what it might have looked like back 100 years.

Thanks to everyone who has replied, I forgot to show you all the junk we hauled out of the fields. Farmers really appreciate it when you take out the trash that you find in their fields and if you can show it to them, it's that much better. This time I found three big Iron objects that could have punctured a tractor tire. Take your trash with you.

Re: Cowboy Buckle and lots of Silver & IH's

Your Spiel Marke piece is a game counter or poker chip, and dates from roughly 1845-1860. Is it perhaps GJ12 or GJ13 on the link listed below?

I would like to see the other side of it.

Hey Buckleboy, here is the back of that coin or what ever it is.  I'm also sending along the front and
back of the token. Nothing on the back of the token that I could find.

Thanks for the reply,
Ringfinder

Cool.  Well, the style of the wreath is so similar, and there were many different types of these.

So I'll stick by my ID of the item.  It is 1840s or a bit later, yet certainly a pre-Civil War find.

NICE FINDS. THE FIELDS PAY OFF SOMETIMES. CONGRATS. LIKE THE ASSORTMENT OF FINDS.
