Re: Finally got back out

Some nice NW gun parts there! :icon_thumright: File looks good... any marks on it? Is the brass teardrop broken off a dragon side plate, or is it from a rifle?

I would post the button on the What Is It? section. Looks like U.S. Infantry, but I have never seen one like that. I'm gonna guess 1812 to 1820's. :dontknow:

Re: Finally got back out

Lucas was pretty close on the button. I have seen a few found and actually found one myself that was turned into a broach with a brass pin (maybe post later). Anyway, the info on your buttons is as follows from the "Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons" by Alphaeus H. Albert. Page 23 shows only 4 variations of this button, but all are pewter, 1 piece convex style, with coat size being 19-20mm (rv10) and vest size being 15mm (rv5). This button was manufactured in between 1815 and 1821.

Congrats on the excellent find!

Re: Finally got back out

Hmm... right in between Pike's expedition and The building of Ft. St. Anthony (Snelling). :icon_scratch:

Very cool item. :icon_thumright:
