Hi all, I have been searching part of an old ghost town and have found relics and a few coins.
The map shows the blacksmith and post office but only ID's other buildings as homesteads.
I am wondering if I found a boarding house/inn location based on these tags discovered at one homestead location.
As you can see, one tag has ROOM across the top. Maybe number was written in pencil?
Coins found so far in this particular location, 1852 Canadian half cent, 1863 and 1864 IH cents.
(Still searching for the mason jar full of silver).

Is there a '1' stamped in the center of the room key tag?

I can't really tell much about the other disk. Is it brass? Any markings you can see? Is the hole punched or drilled? What are the dates of the town or other relic?

Need more info.

Hi Matt, thanks for the reply. I tried to indicate the age with the coin dates that I posted. Its around 1850. The map I have is for 1874.
It was a town simply because it had a post office. Houses are still clustered in the area but the homesteads I am searching are now farm field. No foundation, just red brick, ceramic pottery and various colored glass litter the soil.

The plain disc looks punched, it is the first that I found last year and thought nothing of it except that it might be a tool or key tag. I can see nothing on it but it has quite a bit of copper corrosion.
Both tags are copper. The "room" tag actually looks like a keyhole cover but too small for a skeleton key. I can see no number(s) on the "room" tag. When I found it, it got my mind wandering. I have found a pocket watch parts in the area also.

Other than that, Some ornate copper shards and copper rivets, rimfire casing (looks like 32cal), lead and pewter. A couple neat lead wire seals. Tons of cut nails and iron objects. I'm sure there is all kinds of stuff yet to find but iron masks the deeper objects so I basically have to work it annually as the farmer plows and turns things up to the surface.
