Hey Guys,

Spotted a couple of Horstmann buttons today and picked them up. Any idea on value for these types? Probably just a couple of bucks, but thought I'd ask..

Button 1: Shank missing. Eagle button. Small (cuff or vest?). Reverse stamp: Horstmann Philadelphia..Indian Wars button? I found a similar one that was ID'd as Indian Wars, but the position of the eagle's head and the shield were slightly different.

Button 2: P & R Railroad (cuff button?). Back stamp: Horstmann Bros. & Co. Phil.

Found in a previous thread:
"Although Van Court's Transportation Uniform Buttons, Vol. I - Railroad does not cite a date for the variety with the Horstmann backmark that you describe, other backmarks for buttons of the same design— cataloged as "8/25, P & R, ampersand larger than letters"— range from 1872 to 1892."

The US Army eagle-button is definitely the 1875-to-1902 emblem. That version's value is not affected by minor differences of the eagle's body or shield. Cuff size, missing its loop, in non-excavated condition, $2 if you're lucky.

I know nothing about the value of last-1/4-of-the-1800s Railroad buttons.
