Memorial weekend I took my 16 year old niece to a local park. I told her we'd find something but that I had yet to find anything valuable. I told her that since she was a rookie she'd probably find something good. She did! First stirling ring for my AT!

Today, encouraged by that I went back after some yardwork. May well be my first GOLD! There's a maker's mark but I can't tell what it is! I'll take it to our jeweler tomorrow. Image0 (2).jpgImage0 (1).jpgIMG_3288.jpg

Sorry about the blurry pics! It's a double whammy. I use a crappy flip phone and, being just a bit excited, my hands are shaking!

Thanks Glenn. Pretty stoked if the ring turns out to be the real deal!

I wrote the poem during the Monica years. My boss back then listened to Rush Limbaugh at the shop so I had no choice other than to hear what was really going on in the world. Turned out to be a pretty big influence on my way of thinking. Glad you appreciate it.

Congrats on an excellent hunt with your niece.
That ring looks gold to me. Two hunts, 2 rings.
You're on a hot spot.

Hope it checks out! Well done!!! 🙌

Even if they're not precious metal...they're still rings and any ring is a good find in my book! :icon_thumright:

I agree! The niece's find is definitely sterling. Today's ring is probably gold as it passes the magnet test and has some sort of maker's mark. It rang up a consistent 61-63 on the AT in the ground and air testing.

On account of the place it was found and the mark on the inside I may be able to return it. We'll see!

Congratualtions on the Silver and Gold rings! :occasion14:

Way to score two beauties!

Thanks to you all for chiming in here! Low Karat beats No Karat for sure.

I took the ring to the jeweler that is near my business. When I walked in he asked "now what'd you find?" When I pulled the ring out of my pocket he took a quick look at it and said it sure looks and feels like gold. He then did a quick couple of scratches on that gold test stone you all post pics of so often and dropped a few different acid solutions on the tests. Turns out it's at least 10K. Just weighed it on my wife's official kitchen scale....the Martha Stewart kitchen scale and it came in a whopping 6g! So my first ever gold is at least 10K X 6g of pure gold. That works out to 6 X .4167 or 2.5g of gold. Worth about $95-$100.

Now you may be thinking that's not much. But it's my first! I'm looking at it like my first real girlfriend! She wasn't much to look at but she WAS my first! You understand? Right?! Yup, knew you did.
