Hey everyone, I’m very new to Native American artifact hunting. I wanted to share what I found recently.

The first piece is a little larger than a quarter. It is made of sandstone, and is not very pretty. The only reason I even picked it up was that I noticed it had been notched in 4 places around the edge. The photo of it against lights clearly shows them. It seems too flat and light to have been used for hitting anything. I could be completely wrong but I thought it might be a fishing weight of some sort. It was found close to a spring.

The second piece I found today near a field. It has definitely been used for hammering something, as the stone has impact marks/wear on both ends. It is clear that a big chunk of the stone was chipped off to shape it into its current form.

The third piece is a small point I found in Scott County VA in a cow field. It is the first and only point I have ever found in my life. I was SO excited when I looked down and saw it on the surface. I had always dreamed of finding any kind of point but had never had any luck in the past. I hope to find a lot more in the future. This area seems to have a nice variety to offer.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks for the input. It does look like that type from what I’ve seen in other pictures. I’m fairly certain it’s made of chert, likely from the area I found it, as there was an outcrop very close by. I need to get permission to do a thorough hunt there. It might be worthwhile.

Bottom picture is a nice point, middle picture isnt a point, natural rock, top picture need better pictures of the stone, especially close ups of the "notches".

Sorry, I don’t have any really good close up shots of the last one. Here are a few other angles. I did inspect it under a microscope, and the hammering ends look compacted and different than the sides. Also, you can see the difference in appearance where the “fresher” surface is exposed from the top chunk being removed that spans the top from the rear to the notch.
