Couple nice finds from Sunday's Colonial hunt with Worldtalker

image.jpgI haven't been able to get out detecting as much recently as I would prefer, so when Worldtalker invited me to hunt one of his new sites with him I jumped at the chance. The site is a 1750's Colonial farmhouse with many acres of fields abutting a mountain here in Western Mass. There was a ton of aluminum garbage throughout the site, but amongst the debris I was able to recover these fine two coins, as well as a couple flat buttons and what appears to be a broken counterfeit 8 Real or dollar coin (I will post pics of that item once I am able to clean it up and determine if it is what I think). The KGIII was found under a huge tree along an old field road at about 8" and the Seated Dime was found in the middle of the road at about 2". Found the KGIII with my CTX 3030 and the Seated with my Deus.

Get those pics up. I wanna see the cft and glad to see you get out. How's the shoulder?

Nice. I like the patina on that seated

The counterfeit is at home and I'm at work, so it'll be a few hours before I can post that one. Shoulder is all healed up, doctor said no restrictions, so I'm good to go :headbang:

Nice going Jason! At first glance I thought your copper was a Va halfpenny as the bust looks very similar, but its obviously not after seeing the reverse. Good job on the silver too.

WTG man - love the colonial copper - makes me wish for cooler temps and colonial digging with my good pal Bill D. (it will be here soon my friend!)

I am not able to get a date off the KGIII (although I think I see 1787) and I can't seem to find a precise match for the bust. The X is mighty close to the bust and there are dots above the tabs on his armor. The tabs are also spaced wider than in other examples I have seen. It also appears the coin may have been hand cut rather than stamped as the rim is uneven in parts. I'm wondering if it could be a counterfeit, but I don't have enough evidence to make that claim.
