Couple interesting finds from the weekend. We suspect the porcelain is Spanish or French colonial (went to an old Spanish fort), no clue about the copper piece, and the buttons look like snap ons so probably early to mid 1900s (there was an amusement park here during that time). The chain is nickel and big enough to go around my ring finger- probably more construction material than jewelry.

Any tips on cleaning the copper piece? I can see a design if I look hard enough. It’s pretty fragile though.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Update for anyone interested, we took the porcelain to a colonial anthropologist at Tulane university (we’re close, I didn’t just barge in there hahah) and this is a Chinese piece of porcelain that was a trade good. The Spanish brought it to their colonial fort and it broke at some point. Judging from the glaze and design he assumed this was made in the early 1700s.

We also showed him a low quality ceramic piece we found in a nearby spot and his buddy (a pre-Colombian anthropologist) confirmed we found an indigenous pottery shard. No clue on the age besides very very old.

Always grab anything that doesn’t look natural! I detect in an area where bedrock is 10 feet deep- any odd shards or glass is going in the bag with my metal finds
