Re: could'nt get my KFC so i went MDing

Here is a small collection of relicsfrom Gettysburg (supposedly....). Not my stuff, just a picture from the net of relics for sale. The item like yours is listed as a strap holder.

Whoa! I think that is the first decent evidence of both pieces. Wish we knew their source for coming up with that.

Post your pic down on Buckle's thread, DC.

Gettysburg relics are like Canadian Geese. A Canadian Goose is ANY goose that comes from Canada. That's why those all so familiar geese are called Canada geese and NOT Canadian geese. It's a type of goose. So a Gettysburg relic is any relic from Gettysburg. May or may not be related to the war that took place in Gettysburg.

Food for thought.

Oh yea I understand that logic, I was just pointing out IF those pieces are attached to one another and were dug that way, then we have at least made the solid evidence connection between the two pieces.

Please note my "supposedly" disclaimer. I don't claim these relics are from the battle of Gettysburg, but the seller seems to imply it.

As 72chey said, the pic simply shows the item intact and describes it as a strap holder.

I'm still looking for more pictures to indicate what kind of strap. I'm assuming for the moment that it is from a saddle, but I have no proof.

Hi DCMatt,

I did notice your disclaimer. I was trying to add to the disclaimer.

I understood Bio and totally agree with you. We're on the same page. The pieces may be from 1890 or 1910 instead of the 1860's, but at least it shows them "supposedly attached" to one another.

Great ID on that
THe only problem is that this site has had no one on it since 1819, all artifacts found predate 1820.

I think folks have found these type pieces at sites that date from the 1700's up to late Victorian era. Pretty wide range of dates, thats why its so unusual to HAVE NOT found either of the pieces actually in use.

EVERY site has had someone on it since 1819, 1919, 1987, . . . .

That's true. Jrwill56 was there in 2009 ;D

The finds at some locations can help narrow down most likely era, but then again sometimes you hunt sites spanning the whole spectrum. I don't see why your find couldn't date about 1820.
