I found this last night after finding some other common silver coins but this one was gleaming in the dark like no other silver I have found. All I did to clean was run under some warm water but noticed some higher than normal reflective qualities. I know it would be a little unrealistic to really be a proof but still happy. I can’t seem to capture the reflections that well in photos so Some might not be that clear. One photo is the led light on my Olympus camera that shows reflection well but not coin 🤷🏻*♂️ AE2E4331-9DFD-419A-B693-9C3F21B4607B.jpegE7D0B8A8-25CB-4276-8F5E-B1DBD18FC77C.jpeg68F9B9FB-9DDA-41D3-99B6-899E627D492C.jpeg5FF4D7F9-5201-4FFE-8F8D-0F93628E9E3D.jpeg66B37152-CF9E-4D8D-9DAA-DC6A0EFCA173.jpegB4BD85D2-1501-4BA0-A054-611FC95EE4B2.jpegCE92BCC4-079A-44DA-A9EE-BF45338C916B.jpeg

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!! Don’t think it’ll make Proof, but very nice shape!

Yes, they made a proof from Philadelphia that year. Having been in circulation ruins it's proof value, but, still a nice coin whether it's an original proof, or an early die state business strike. :icon_thumright:

you said you found it, and found some other coins, so I'm assuming you dug it (?). I've also dug a few old coins that have had a surface quality near that. My opinion is that (if dug) it was lost when it practically uncirculated and had a very high state of mint luster. The near mirror smooth finish void of any fine scratches combined with kind soil conditions result in a coin being excavated that still retains an appearance that is almost the same as when it was lost. To answer your question though, I doubt it was issued as a proof although anything is possible I suppose. Only 886 proof Philadelphia mint 1886 dimes were produced though.

Beautiful seated dime, congratulations! :occasion14:

If you really want to know if its a Proof or not, you would probably have to take it to a expert in seated dimes and let them check it out. The mirror look would probably be less of a tell to them than the quality of the strike and any of the minute details that might separate a business strike from a proof. However, those who commented above here are most likely correct.

Yes It was dug coin. I also think it’s a bit far fetched it’s an actual proof coin. So far we dug about 11 silver coins this seated dime being the oldest others coins up to 1945. Also about 15 wheat pennies and 8 buttons 1 IH with roughly the same typical corrosion here in NY on all except this seated dime. Could be the slightly smoother surface IDK . *♂️

Hey, its a really sharp seated dime anyway it goes. I've found about four now and they are all very well worn. Enjoy it.

Proof seated coins are very pretty. Here's one that I have. It's toned a bit and only gets a PR62 from PCGS, but, it was affordable and still a good looking coin.

Agreed, not a proof, but still a darned nice looking coin. Congrats on your finds.

That’s an amazing coin!

Would like to see more photos of the coin with PCGS photos.

My proof half? If so, I'll take a reverse shot the next time I go to the bank and get it out of the safe deposit box.

FAN DIME TASTIC. Agreed, it's got a lot of original mint luster. Grats on a super nice dug dime.

I don't know about the coin, but that photo is proof you are digging better coins than me! Congrats!

Just looking at it is all the "proof" I need. That's a handsome looking dime.
