I dug this maybe 4 years ago here in the woods in southern, Indiana. I keep going back to this piece cause I havenā€™t identified it yet and itā€™s an unusual find. It is magnetic and has an octagon shape with eight sides. Iā€™ve taken photos using quarters to show size and have scaled weight. Tell me what you think. Here is also a picture I googled of a similar type die shape. Last picture is die off google!

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

first guess itā€™s a broken (top half) of some sort of striking tool (chisel, punch, etc). The mushroom at the top is from a lot of usage/hammer blows
I have to agree

I have to agree with ncsuwolf. Far from an expert, but the grains in the metal resemble wrought iron. It does look like a the tip of a striking tool. Cool find regardless. šŸ‘

I did look at chisels on line and punches go way back, it does have some similarities. I donā€™t really know for sure. It is layered oddly and looks like it definitely went through tremendous heat! I would really like to get it tested somewhere.
