I have a question on cores.
#1. What is the difference between a core or a spall?
#2. Did they ever use cores for anything when they were done with them?
#3. Why would these 2 be so small?
#4. Seeing they are so small do you think they made and used the removed pieces for tools?
The reason I ask is cause I am on a area that I have permission to hunt and am finding a lot of cores and the one on the right is so small.
What could they of made to leave such a small core.

YUP a core rock is whats left of the rock that has had spalls and flakes removed from it for making arrowheads or knife blades.

I always use my phone for this, and the I and O are so close, I misspell your name always. Is this the first time "Rick" has ever came through? I have corrected it a million times. I'm not sure that's what you have, but they look close if they aren't gun flints.

I always thought cores were often shaped similar to this and were being broken down in a way to maximize the amount of bladlets taken from the piece of flint. I looked and did see several shapes and sizes called cores but those do look like they could be worn down tools too. But who knows, maybe they only needed tiny flint pieces.
Anyone else find many cores? I have a fairly large one and if I could find the key I would post it.

I keep the cores cause I find them interesting on how small some can be. Some of these are small enough to be a bead if they had drilled them. I also look at them so I can figure what type of tools or points I am going to find while hunting. As in colors and I have trained my eyes to ignore the other colors if there are a lot of rocks I am looking through. That way I can scan the ground faster to find the good ones. Thanks, rock
