Hand carved coral. My husband dug it up in Waiehu Maui a long time ago. Have no idea what this can be worth. Any ideas? 123FC710-F73D-4C84-B3C4-C0679BFF0E4A.jpeg3956266A-DF22-4F07-9FF1-4F74576421E6.jpeg

This one looks like it's getting bogged down a little.
Let's consider some possibilities.
Which way do we go with this ?

It's the bone skull of little folks who we don't know exist because anyone who has seen them has been turned to stone ?

A Carved Coral Skull ... except they are usually carved well.

One of many items you can buy as a kit to grow your own coral ?
(see frag plugs)

Skulls 2.jpg

A whimsical resin skull with an odd smile and sutures ?

This might help. From Polynesian islands. Makemake was responsible for the fertility of food plants, fowls, and the paper mulberry from which cloth was produced. When crops were planted, a skull representing Makemake was placed in the ground and an incantation was offered, commencing, 'Ka to ma Haua, ma

There is a good chance you may have nailed why it was there, we did not know about this, as my husband recalls the odds of him pulling that out of the ground in a thick massive vegetated area were were slim as he was digging for old bottles and removing rocks, one more note my husband just found out he is 20 % Polynesian. The whole thing is pretty strange, thank you so much for the info.

I know it is true of Easter Island. Not sure all of Polynesia, but people did travel back then. I also know, and I can’t remember where I read it, that in some cultures a small carved skull would ne put in chicken coops to insure fertility. I would still pursue your investigation. Hope you post back with the results if you find anything out.

Can't be a modern resin whimsical.

It was found in a modern bottle dump only 4,500 miles from an island that put stones in their garden 600 yrs. ago. They didn't use resin.
